CULVERT INSTALLATION AND REHABILITATION SERVICES

Control water around a roadway.

What Is a Culvert and Why Is Rehabilitation Important?

Culverts are structures within a tunnel that help take water across a roadway. Typically, they aren’t noticeable and go beneath a roadway or railway to control water that comes into contact with it. Culverts are similar to pipes but much bigger. They are generally composed of steel, aluminum, concrete, or even plastic. Relining and rehabilitation of culverts are vital to prevent roads from falling apart, which can endanger anyone who is on the road.

Installation and Rehabilitation Process

We will install a new culvert to replace the old by jack-n-bore or hand-mining through the existing embankment film. As for the rehabilitation side, we will repair the damaged culvert by slip-lining or constructing a new culvert inside of the existing one.

Different Culvert Rehabilitation Methods

Culvert rehabilitation is important if the surrounding embankment is not favorable to accept a new culvert or the cost of replacing outweighs the rehabilitation cost. The size of the culvert also factors into the decision. Here are a few types of culvert rehabilitation you can get:

Specialty Rehabilitation

LRL Construction stays on the cutting edge of new rehabilitation methods so that we can provide our clients with the most options and the best methods to repair your pipes. Some of these methods include hand-mining of the existing culvert while constructing a new liner plate culvert within the same work shift and/or pipe swallowing, which is pushing a new pipe that is larger than the existing one along the same alignment and removing the existing culvert within the new pipe.

Slip-Lining

This approach can be used for any type of existing culvert and normally involves installing sections of new pipe that will be of a size that passes through the tightest obstructions and shape change locations yet provides the maximum flow capacity possible. Additionally, the relined pipe wall profile is often smooth to maximize flow capacity. Products available include a smooth interior wall corrugated metal pipe such as spiral rib or double-wall pipe; plastic pipe, such as PVC or HDPE solid-wall or profile-wall pipes; fiberglass pipe; and reinforced concrete pipe.
